Announced on September 15th 2008, the Xeon 7400 series is a high end series of 7 CPUs destined for performance critical servers. Based on Intel's now well established 45nm fabrication process the 7400 series chips will contain up to 6 processing cores with 16MB of shared cache.

Engineered to reside on Xeon 7000 series platforms that can allow up to 16 individual chips - for a total of 96 individual cores - the 7400 series are aimed specifically at large scalable enterprise servers. With large performance gains on previous chips, with lower than ever power consumption, the 7400 series includes chips ranging from a 4-core 2.13GHz (50W) to a 2.66 6-core (130W).
