Intel Core i7-820QM

$546.00 Released September, 2009

Product Shot 1The Intel Core i7-820QM is an addition to the Intel mobile quad core processor line up. It has a higher clock speed on 1.73GHz and 8MB cache compared to the cheaper 720QM. Both are build on the 45nm fabrication process unlike their dual core i3 and i5 counterparts which are build on the 32nm process meaning they are cheaper, less power consuming and cooler running.

Also worth noting that the 820QM has a thermal design power (TDP) of 45W which is reasonable for a mobile quad core processor but is 10W higher than the ones of its dual core counetrparts. It does feature Intel's speed step technology which will dynamically adjust the clock speed depending on the load. Whilst the 820QM is not designed to provide a full day's of battery life, it is a good choice for notebook buyers looking for the power of a Core i7 quad core processor on the go whether it might be gaming or heavy video editing.
