The 540UM is essentially a lower clocked version of the standard Core i5 processors, by doing so Intel have managed to reduce the TDP (amount of heat output) from 35W to 18W enabling the use of these processors in notebooks designed for portability and extended battery life. Some minor changes from the standard parts includes a lower memory bandwidth and it is only compatible with DDR3-800 memory (as opposed to 800 and 1066). It features a built in integrated graphics processor, virtualisation technology, hyper-threading, enhanced speed step, and idel states.
