AMD Phenom X4 9500
$175.00
Released November, 2007
The Pros:Runs very coolly with the stock fan--30-degrees Celsius when at high loads. AMD Overdrive technology makes for easy overclocking. Decent performance for the price for those not seeking top-of-the-line performance.
The Cons:Dated compared to AMD's newer AM3 quad and hexacore offerings. Only compatible with older versions of AMD's Overdrive software--newer versions don't affect clock speeds at all. Needs aftermarket cooling for any extensive overclocking--can heat up to almost 50 C.
The AMD Phenom X4 9500 was the slowest of the two AMD first-generation quad core processors initially released. Due to the TLB bug found within the first B2 stepping release, however, the release of the chip was met with lackluster fanfare.

While still a considerable powerhouse CPU, the 9500 was replaced with a later B3 stepping core and renamed the 9550.
