AMD Opteron 185
Released May, 2005
The Pros:Long manufacturer warranty - 3 years. Good for upgrading an older 939 socket based system. Suitable for moderate computing tasks such as Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere etc.
The Cons:Based on the aging 939 socket - several generations behind current technology. Hard to find - no longer made. Lacks built-in virtualization support.
The AMD Opteron 185 is a mid-range, although slightly outdated, processor for use in 1-way servers and workstations. Although AMD's current server CPUs offer at least four cores, the 'Denmark'-based Opteron 185 features only two, but still incorporates 64-bit technology, as well as an integrated memory controller and HyperTransport.
