AMD Athlon X2 5400+

$89.00 Released January, 2008

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Value - offers solid entry-level performance at a low price. Runs fairly cool with the stock CPU cooler. Great for an entry to mid level gaming machine.

The Cons:The included heatsink fan is loud. Aging product - newer, comparable CPUs are now available.

A middle of the road option in the AMD lineup, the AMD Athlon 5400+ can handle whatever you throw at it competently. Rated at 2.8GHz with a TDP of 65W, the 5400+ is cool and efficient enough to be quiet and light on the utility bill, but strong enough to handle a fair bit of gaming or encoding without becoming a system bottleneck that causes major delays.
