AMD Athlon X2 5400+
$89.00
Released January, 2008
The Pros:Value - offers solid entry-level performance at a low price. Runs fairly cool with the stock CPU cooler. Great for an entry to mid level gaming machine.
The Cons:The included heatsink fan is loud. Aging product - newer, comparable CPUs are now available.
A middle of the road option in the AMD lineup, the AMD Athlon 5400+ can handle whatever you throw at it competently. Rated at 2.8GHz with a TDP of 65W, the 5400+ is cool and efficient enough to be quiet and light on the utility bill, but strong enough to handle a fair bit of gaming or encoding without becoming a system bottleneck that causes major delays.

While AMD maintains they no longer manufactures the Windsor version of this chip, and claims only to sell the cooler Brisbane, most retail sources remain selling the older, hotter chip.
