AMD Athlon X2 4850E
$87.00
Released March, 2008
The Pros:Draws very little power from the motherboard, good for low-powered systems. Enough power for everyday computing tasks. Runs very cool, generally won't heat it up.
The Cons:Has been replaced by newer, faster processors at around the same price.
The 45w TDP AMD Athlon X2 4850E processor is part of an energy efficient series based on AMDs dual core 65nm Athlon X2 K8. Made up of the 4050e (BE-2350), 4450e (BE-2400) and the 4850e, the new 45w envelope is the only advancement of this series.

This improvement allows for cooler operation at similar performance levels, which in turn allows for quieter operation for less of a need to displace the heat generated by their hotter brethren. The chips run at 2.1, 2.3 and 2.5GHz respectively. Not a gaming or encoding chip by any stretch of the imagination, these processors are best suited for media center PCs or in any application where quiet and cool operation take precedence over performance.
